Monday is Memorial Day, which means that lots of you out there have the promise of long weekends stretching out in front of you. What better way to spend some of that time than getting out into the countryside and picking your own fruit! While many of our area’s U-Pick farms aren’t open yet, there are quite a few that are open and ready with fields full of strawberries ripe for the picking.
Delaware County’s Linvilla Orchards is one of the regions most dependable and prolific U-Pick farm. They’re currently offering strawberries for picking and their fields are open 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Another terrific, family friendly destination for pick your own strawberries is Springdale Farms in Cherry Hill. Their berry fields are open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and they predict that they’ll have fruit well into mid-June.
If you’ve never picked your own fruit before, we have a few tips for you before you head out into the fields. Before you pile into the car, make sure to call the farm or use its website to find out whether they provide containers or if you should bring your own. Make sure to bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Wear shoes that can get muddy.
