Whether you need something wonderful to round out a special brunch or you just want an easy main dish to take the edge off the demands of daily cooking, you should check out the new savory tarts from Market Day (makers of those perfect, custardy canelé). Currently available at the Bryn Mawr, Rittenhouse Square and Headhouse Square Farmers’ Markets, these seasonal, handmade tarts are just the thing.
Right now, Market Day is making them with asparagus, chevre, boar bacon and spring garlic. Last week, they featured fiddlehead ferns, guanciale, chevre and that same spring garlic. As new vegetables come into season, the featured flavors will shift to reflect the best produce available. An 8 inch tart is $15. Not bad for something that is carefully hand made from local and seasonal ingredients!
