And if those berries happen to be inside a freshly baked homemade pie from a secret family recipe, even better. And if that scrumptious dessert happens to win the Morris Arboretum’s Berry Best Bake-Off contest, well, then that just takes the cake. (Pun very much intended.)
On Thursday, July 19 from 5-6 p.m., as part of Chestnut Hill’s summer Third Thursday event, Morris Arboretum will host its Berry Best Bake-Off, where aspiring pastry chefs will manipulate top secret family formulas to compete for prizes doled out by local pie professionals from Cake, Bredenbeck’s Bakery and The Night Kitchen Bakery.
Judging will take place at the HaHa Wall, next to the Azalea Meadow.
It’s a competition where, really, everyone wins, as all entries will be sliced and served to visitors following the contest.

To add to the fun, following the bake-off, Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company (CCTC) will present its version of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town at 6:30 p.m. on the Azalea Meadow Stage. You can read more about CCTC and its schedule of free outdoor summer productions here.
