Urban Girls Produce

Founded in 2004, this farming collective specializes in organic produce grown on sustainable land

On its two acres of farmland at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, Urban Girls cultivates pesticide- and herbicide-free cabbages, broccoli, heirloom tomatoes, lettuces, herbs and melons, plus Southern crops like poblano peppers, okra, tomatillos, sweet potatoes and lima beans.

At the heart of its ethos are traditional farming methods, and the collective draws heavily on founder Gina Humphreys’ third-generation family techniques. Urban Girls sells its wares through a CSA and at the Clark Park, Northern Liberties and Palmer Park farmers’ markets, as well as at the Schuylkill Center farm stand.
