The Second Annual Philly Vendy Food Truck Awards To Return, Saturday, July 28

Last year's first-ever Philly Vendy Awards took over the Piazza at Schmidts with a showcase of Philadelphia street food; the food truck competition returns to Philadelphia this summer in a new location in West Philadelphia. (Photo by Michael Toolan courtesy Vendy Awards)

After last year’s very successful first-ever Vendy Awards where Gigi & Big R claimed the winning title, the Second Annual Vendy Awards return to Philly to determine this year’s top curbside chef, Saturday, July 28 at a new outdoor location: The Lot at 39th and Market Streets.

Nominations are now open through Thursday, July 5, for the public (that means YOU) to pick your favorite food truck to be entered to compete in the sidewalk cuisine battle.

From the best late night hangover cure to your go-to lunch spot, food trucks eligible for nomination span the gamut of mobile food in Philadelphia.

Organized by The Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center, the Vendys not only shine a light on some of Philadelphia’s most talented concrete chefs, but the event serves as a fundraiser for The Food Trust, the region’s non-profit working to improve the health of children and adults while increasing access to good nutrition.

In the past year, dozens of new vendors have been roaming the city streets, and The Food Trust’s Night Markets have been prepping us with tasty samplings throughout the months to help make this oh-so important decision.

Judging this year’s Vendy Cup and dessert category winner is food writer Joy Manning and Midtown Village’s most popular Chef Marcie Turney.

Tickets, which get you all the food you can eat from the finalists, unlimited beer and a vote for People’s Choice, are on sale now, and we suggest you scoop them up as quickly as possible.
