A group of food-minded South Philadelphia residents are working together in the hopes of creating a food co-op for that neighborhood of the city. Much like Mariposa in West Philly or Weaver’s Way in Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill, the South Philly Food Co-op would offer members a chance to harness their collective buying power to bring healthy and affordable food to their area of the city by 2013.
If this is an idea that intrigues you, consider stopping by Hawthorne’s Beer Boutique next Wednesday night from 5-7:30 p.m. for a fundraising event. The suggested donation for the event is $15, which covers appetizers and gets you access to beer discounts (which can be had by the pint or by the growler).
For those of you with questions about the Co-op, members of the Steering, Outreach and Legal/Finance committees will be on hand to explain and clarify any issues.
