Round-Up: Top Picks For Late Night Eat And Drink Specials

Jonesing for a bite to eat and a drink to down on a hot summer night? Restaurants ranging from Fort Washington's spicy spot Cantina Feliz to quirky diner Square Peg offer can't-be-beat late-night specials. (Left photo courtesy Cantina Feliz, right photo courtesy Square Peg)

Whether after a long day of work or amidst an evening of summer revelry, there’s nothing like a good late-night bite.

That’s especially true when it’s paired with a great drink, no matter if your evening is winding down or just getting started.

As folks who often get off work late themselves, plenty of chefs in Philadelphia recognize this need, and are offering special deals on late-night food and beverages designed to truly hit the spot.

Our picks, below:

Alla Spina: Marc Vetri does’t mess around. His newest eatery, on North Broad, offers a late night happy hour from 10:30 p.m.-midnight Monday through Thursday. Dish on buck-fifty oysters, $2 porcini deviled eggs, $3 beef fat French fries and a bangin’ $6 mortadella hot dog. Drafts are all $2 off.

Dock Street Brewery: Dock Street’s Late Night “Reverse Happy Hour” features $2 slices of pizza and discounts on draft beer from 11:30 p.m.-1 a.m.

Jamonera: The newest entry in Marcie Turney and Valarie Safran’s small empire on 13th Street is Jamonera, with delectable small plates and a wide selection of sherry. From 10-11:30 p.m. on Sunday-Thursday, the restaurant serves up a special menu with $3 beer, $4 sangria, $5 wines by the glass and a $15 Sherry Tasting. Food offerings rotate frequently but include $2 tapas “bites” like Chorizo-Stuffed Olives and $5-10 “Kitchen Staff Snacks” such as jamon & waffles, or serrano-wrapped fries with sheep’s milk cheese and truffled salt.

Square Peg: Chef Matt Levin used to work at the super elegant Lacroix at the Rittenhouse, but his new venture, Square Peg, is decidedly more downscale. In addition to a regular menu with dishes like cheesesteak pot pie and “tacos in a bag,” Levin offers a late-night menu that runs Friday and Saturday 10 p.m.-midnight.

Barbuzzo: The popular Mediterranean kitchen Barbuzzo, also from Marcie and Val, offers night owl specials Sunday-Thursday, 10:30 p.m.-midnight. Drink specials include $3 draft beer, $4 sangria and $5 wine by the glass, and food plates rotate but include pizzas, pastas, burgers and more for the reduced price of $10.

Oyster House: The popular “Buck-A-Shuck” happy hour makes a cameo appearance at Oyster House every Saturday from 9-11 p.m., when a select oyster is $1 a piece, a select shooter $3, a select draft beer $3 and a select cocktail $5.

Cantina Feliz: One of our favorite Mexican spots, located in Fort Washington, offers $2 Dos Equis, $3 Craft Beer, $4 House Wine, Red/White Sangria, $5 Feliz Margaritas and $2 Off Specialty Cocktails from 9-11:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Square 1682: If you can’t get enough of Square 1682‘s early evening happy hour, you’re in luck. This New American restaurant adjacent to Hotel Palomar Philadelphia also offers its happy-hour prices from 10 p.m. to midnight on Sunday-Thursday. They boast a mean drink special, including $7 featured cocktail, $5 red, white and sparkling wine and $3 Yuengling & Miller Lite bottles. While you’re taking a late-night sip, enjoy 25% off the Chef’s selection of menu items.

The Sidecar: The Graduate Hospital bar and grill, The Sidecar, serves up a killer late-night happy hour from midnight-2 a.m. on Monday-Friday nights. Nachos, carnitas and pretzel-crusted chicken finger plates are all half price, and drink specials include $2.50 High Lifes and well drinks plus $1 off all drafts.

The Industry: At The Industry, from Good Dog’s Dave Garry and Heather Gleason, Chef Pat Szoke serves the city’s only public Staff Meal. Available every Sunday from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. guests can enjoy an ever-changing plate of the same meal served to the staff after the evening’s service, for $6 per plate.

Union Transfer: Union Transfer on Spring Garden Street offers a great Late Night Post-Show Happy Hour from 9 p.m.-midnight (exact start time varies depending on the show), consisting og $2 Miller High Life Drafts, $3 Three Olives Drinks and $4 Jack Daniels Drinks. Not too shabby.

Jet Wine Bar: The cozy, hole-in-the-wall Jet Wine Bar offers special prices and activities most nights of the week. The highlight is on Wednesday, when a DJ spins all night and a happy hour runs from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. There are always beers, wines and cocktails for $5 or less, and a host of discounted bar snacks like house-spiced nuts and a daily bruschetta special.

Triumph Brewing Company: Old City’s no early bird. Head over to Triumph Brewing Company for their late night happy hour featuring $3 beers, $4 house wines and $5 well drinks from 11 p.m.-midnight on Monday-Thursday.

Mixto: $5 margaritas, anyone? Head to this Pine Street spot from midnight to 2 a.m. to take advantage.

Birra: East Passyunk gets in on the late night specials with $4 craft drafts, $5 wines and $6 specialty cocktails every Tuesday-Friday from 11 p.m.-1 a.m. at Birra.
