The 22nd annual Pennsylvania Dutch Festival has made its way back to town!
The (free!) event kicked off yesterday and continues through tomorrow, August 13, celebrating the finest traditions of the Pennsylvania Dutch — droolworthy food, handmade crafts and a kickin’ country street fair.
The festival today will be held at Reading Terminal Market’s center court seating area, then moves outside tomorrow for an awesome block party on the 1100 stretch of Arch Street.
Check out our handy guide to all things Dutch Festival:
Inside the market, you can browse through handmade crafts such as quilts, wood crafts, paintings, hand-braided rugs, wooden toys, cedar chests and much more. The goods make for ideal gifts, home decor or else just fun browsing.
The delectable food is arguably the biggest draw to the festival. Enjoy delicious, traditional Pennsylvania Dutch eats including sticky buns, shoofly pie, donuts, jams, jellies, soft pretzels, barbecue chicken, barbecue ribs, scrapple, Amish-style sausage sandwiches, chicken potpie — and truly, that’s only the beginning.
Tomorrow, Saturday, August 13, the fun moves outdoors with a country street fair on Arch Street, featuring Amish buggy rides, horse drawn wagon rides, a petting zoo and live bluegrass entertainment. There will be hale bales galore to set the scene.
And don’t sweat finding a parking spot: $4 parking will be available at the nearby Parkway Garage at 12th and Filbert Streets. What’s not to love?
