A local coffee roaster devoted to sustainable farming practices and delicious coffee.
If you find yourself in the Rittenhouse Square area and in need of some good quality tea, make sure to stop in at Premium Steap, located at 111 S. 18th Street. Silver canisters fill every shelf that lines the wall, each holding loose tea leaves imported directly from India and China.
Owner, Peggy Stephens is a tea connoisseur. She’s passionate about tea, and loves to educate her customers about what they’re drinking. Peggy has been in the tea business for about eleven years, first running a tea bar in Wayne, PA before setting up the current shop in Rittenhouse five years ago. Her goal is to match each drinker up with the tea they crave. Steap has a wide selection of teas ranging from white to oolong blends. The teas are customized and vary by demographic. Steap also sells to many local restaurants in the Philadelphia area.
Almost every flavor imaginable is available among Steap’s 160 different blends, including Peach, strawberry, jasmine, fennel, melon. Every blend is plastic and lead free and the selections vary from season to season.
One of Stephens’s best sellers is the “Spring Melody” which is a Chinese green sencha, infusing strawberries, pineapples, and oranges, served year round, hot or cold. Her plain blacks and greens, including Assam and Earl Grey are her number one sellers.
Many who come in search for a cup of tea unexpectedly come to find amazing Darjeeling or Chai. Steap is considered a hidden gem to many newcomers and locals in the area in search of the drop to hit the spot.
