Located in an old train station along the Lansdale/Doylestown line (previously known as the R5) in Ambler, PA, Trax Restaurant and Cafe is an unassuming local food treasure. Chef and owner Steven Waxman actively sources his ingredients from local farmers and also maintains an extensive garden right there on the Trax property. During the summer months, it’s a good bet that the herbs, greens and tomatoes you’re eating were grown within a literal stone’s throw of your table.
Trax has been in operation since 1998 and features a 45-seating dining room in the old train station waiting room. In the warmer seasons, the restaurant doubles in capacity as Chef Waxman and his staff add tables to the porch and covered patio (if you have a large group, you can reserve this gorgeous, handmade table).
The lunch menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps. Pictured above is a wrap that includes grilled chicken, baby arugula, goat cheese and a housemade jerk sauce that was divine. One of their summer special salads is a generous heap of young lettuces, dressed in a light vinaigrette and topped with lump crab meat and avocado.
