We Philadelphians are incredibly lucky to live in such a lush part of the country. There’s just so much that grows here! And one local restaurant chain is trying to grow even more. Marathon Restaurants recently planted an urban farm on a formerly blighted plot of land in the Brewerytown neighborhood of the city. Their goal for the farm is to increase food access for the farm’s neighbors, as well as provide ingredients for the kitchens at their five restaurant locations.
There are a couple of ways to encounter the produce from the Marathon Farm. The first is to visit one of the restaurants for lunch (or dinner). Look for dishes that feature greens, radishes, squash and more. They occasionally post the produce that is going to the kitchens on the Marathon Farm blog. You can also ask your server for more information.
The other option for getting your hands on the goods from Marathon Farm is to visit their weekly farmstand. It’s open from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Saturday during the growing season. Head up and buy yourself some city grown veg.
