Like many local food businesses, John and Kira’s Chocolates has a tie to the White Dog Café, where John Doyle was working when he met his future partner Kira, now an education professor, at a dinner party.
After two years of self-training in chocolate-making, they launched their eponymous company, producing artisan chocolates in small batches. At the heart of their ethos is supporting community through initiatives like Project Mintpatch, which works with area school gardens to produce mint.
Their award-winning, nationally lauded list of confections favors local ingredients and includes flavors like the aforementioned mint, Glenn’s Raspberry (named for a local farmer) and Lavender Honey (from a Pennsylvania apiary). John and Kira’s commitment to family farms, biodynamic and organic agriculture and civic engagement only makes their products that much more tempting.
John and Kira’s Chocolates are available at the Fair Food farmstand, area farmer’s markets, including Rittenhouse, Headhouse, Clark Park and Phoenixville.
