Homegrown Restaurant Profile: Green Soul

Green Soul's delicious Barbequed Chicken Sandwich, Germantown Sweet Potato Salad and Mango Jerk Salmon Salad are all inspired by southern flavors. Photo: A.Calbeck for GPTMC

Nestled in the Northwest community of West Oak Lane, Green Soul is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. Offering updated versions of classic soul-food flavors, Green Soul strives to be a healthy alternative to traditional fast food.

Run by the husband and wife team of Akil and Stacey Collins, Green Soul makes everything on the menu fresh daily. They offer a wide selection of salads and delicious southern inspired sandwiches. The best seller, the Cajun Salmon BLT has spiced salmon and smoked turkey bacon.

We are also fond of their Barbeque Pulled Chicken Sandwich especially when paired with their Germantown Sweet Potato Salad – a wonderful play on traditional German potato salad, but certainly lighter and with an added smokey kick. They also offer a variety of natural sodas from oogave.

Green Soul is a sister restaurant to Relish and Warmdaddy’s and the menu was originally developed by Head Chef Ben Bynum. Green Soul is also dedicated to recycling and has partnered with Philly Compost to institute a composting program on-site.
