Happy National Sandwich Day, Philadelphia!

Declared the “official sandwich of Philadelphia” by Mayor Ed Rendell in 1992 at Wawa Hoagie Day at City Hall, the hoagie often takes a second seat to Philly’s other famous sandwich, the Cheesesteak.

In honor of National Sandwich Day, our friends at Visit Philly have decided to celebrate the hoagie and give this iconic sandwich it’s due. We told you earlier about the hoagie making contest, and don’t forget to stop by Liberty Place today from 11:30AM – 1PM and vote for the official ‘With Love Hoagie’.

But, the fun doesn’t end there. Visit Philly has also launched a great contest to determine the most important element of the hoagie and by answering a singular question, you could win a year’s supply of hoagies! They’ve also launched a new Hoagie Finder and released a new Hoagie Foodspotting Guide.

Happy National Sandwich day, Philadelphia. Go order your hoagie any way you like it and help celebrate Philadelphia’s unique take on meat, bread and cheese!
