For $2 a pop, The Cupcake Lady brings decadent made-from-scratch treats right to your door. The former attorney retired her furrowed brow for a transformed mail truck. She’s hard to miss—decked out in sprinkles and dancing, slightly-sexy cupcakes, you can see her coming from a mile away.
You might smell her before you see her. While baking is not done on the tiny mail truck, hundreds of cupcakes are vended across the city from the tiny sales window, reminiscent of an ice cream truck. Classic options include yellow and chocolate cakes with chocolate ganache. Things only get richer from there—try the red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. All tasty treats are made with natural ingredients, like fresh cream butter, dark chocolate and whole eggs.
The Cupcake Lady offers two “fancy flavors” everyday. The Cupcake Lady has an up-to-date website and blog, so it’s easy to hunt down the chocolate nutella buttercream cakes each week. Or the yellow peanut butter buttercream cakes. Or the banana nutella buttercream cakes. The list goes on.
The delicious idea encountered some speed bumps along the way; finding spots to legally park and sell proved to be difficult, but she can usually be found around Temple, The University of the Sciences, UPenn, Love Park and Eastern State Penitentiary.
