The Birds, Bees and a PASA Potluck Supper

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

The Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) has two events coming up that we think might just tickle the fancy of some of you local food folk. The first is their Winter Potluck Gathering on Thursday, February 17. It’s being held at the Flint Hill Farm Educational Center in Coopersburg, PA. It’s a time to share good food with friends and appreciate the slowness of the wintertime. Guests are asked to bring food and drink to share, as well as enough plates, cups, napkins and utensils for your party. If you’d like to come, RSVP to denise@pasafarming.com.

In recent years, it has gotten VERY trendy to keep either bees or chickens in your backyard (sometimes even both!). On February 26, PASA will be offering a double header of classes designed to help you get your urban homestead started with one or both of these rewarding endeavors.

Choose from “Chickens? In My Backyard?” taught by Amy Johnson and Chris McNichol or “Bee Keeping for Beginners: What’s the buzz about?” with Trey Flemming from Two Gander Farm. PASA has scheduled two sessions of each class, so it’s actually possible to take both in the same day. The morning session runs from 10 – 11:30 a.m. and the afternoon session is 12:45 – 2:15 p.m.

If you register before February 23, each class costs $15 for PASA members and $20 for non-members. Prices go up by $5 after that date. Click here to sign up. Both classes will be held at PASA’s Southeast Office in Exton, PA. If you plan on taking both sessions, make sure to bring a packed lunch.
