There’s a new type of periodical that’s slowly being adopted by the food writing community. Half cookbook, half literary journal, these bi- or tri-yearly publications feature some of the best in food, literature and photography. Canal House Cooking is one example of such a thing (and I am well and truly addicted to it).
The latest to join the fray is a thing called Communal Table. This first book is entitled A Casual Setting and is edited and illustrated by Caroline Hwang. It features work by Cathy Erway and Tom Mylan, among many others.
Best of all, it has a distinctly Philly connection. Proceeds from this first edition go to benefit The Food Trust, our local fighters for food accessibility and justice.
