Brown Betty

Delectable cakes baked from old family recipes

Named for owner Norrinda Brown’s grandmother, Brown Betty Dessert

Boutique serves mean Southern-style pound cakes (lemon, coconut and pineapple) inspired by Betty’s vintage recipes.

Since its inception in 2004, Brown Betty has built a steady following for its old-fashioned charm—not to mention lavish cheesecakes, red velvet cakes, carrot cakes and rich creations with names like Hattie Don’t Play (chocolate fudge cake) and Only for Eliza (sweet potato pound cake with vanilla buttercream). Among the most lusted-after items, however, is the full menu of cupcakes in a rainbow of flavors.

This mini-chain has grown to three locations—in Northern Liberties, Rittenhouse Square and Liberty Place—making Brown Betty’s confections deliciously accessible.
